South Shore Bike Ride to Raise Funds In Memory of A Very Little Girl Who Made a Very Big Difference

CANTON, MA August 4, 2004 -- The Liat Chanina Foundation, a private charitable Foundation set up in memory of Liat Chanina Paskin who died on April 8, 2002 of a rare and aggressive brain tumor, will hold its first annual fundraising bike ride, "Riding Chai" on Sunday, August 29, 2004. Proceeds from the ride will help support the important work of the Foundation. The Honorary Masters of Ceremony on the 29th will be Phil Lipof and Juli Auclair, co-anchors of Channel 7 News.

Riding Chai (Chai means "life" in Hebrew and represents the number 18) will be an 18+ mile bike ride beginning at Temple Beth Abraham in Canton and going through Canton, Stoughton, Easton and Sharon. Over 100 riders and many more supporters are anticipated.

While riders are out on the route, children and other family members will be treated to special programming and activities. Upon the return of the riders, everyone will enjoy a kosher lunch and closing ceremonies during which our first annual "Healing Hero" award will be presented to Ce Ce Waithe, RN of Children's Hospital, Boston. The "Healing Hero" award is presented each year to a deserving recipient who quietly and un-assumingly brings healing of body, mind and spirit to children facing disease and their families.

David Paskin, Rabbi of Temple Beth Abraham, Canton, MA, together with his wife created the Foundation to honor the memory of their beloved daughter. The Foundation endeavors to make a difference in the lives of children and families facing health challenges and loss by creating and promoting resources and opportunities for hope and healing. As a particular focus, the Foundation strives to encourage the ongoing work of finding a cure for pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers, by supporting organizations engaged in the search for a cure and institutions that care for children suffering from cancer.

Liat Chanina Paskin was born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 22, 2000 to Heather and David. Sadly at twenty-one months, Liat was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive brain tumor. Liat died on April 8th, 2002 at 11:15 pm in the "Comfort Corner" on the oncology floor at Children's Hospital in Boston.
