‘Bike the Sites' and ‘Segs in the City' team up to bring Segways to DC

Washington, DC September 2, 2004 -- Segs in the City announced its expanded operations in downtown Washington DC. Co-located with Bike the Sites at the Old Post Office Pavillion on 12th and Pennsylvania, Segs in the City offers daily ‘safaris' (10 am, 2.30pm and 5.30pm) to various routes and points of interest around DC, the Capitol, Union Station and beyond.

The ‘safaris' are led by a trainer and "are aimed at teaching the rider how to use the segway on various types of terrain and in an urban environment" said Bill Main, owner of Segs in the City. Although we have more than 20 segways available, individual safaris are limited to a maximum of 6 riders to ensure maximum attention to each rider.

"There is a lot of interest in the Segways as people have seen them on TV but very few have seen them up close - let alone gotten on one" said Mr. Main. "Segways have no accelerator and no brake – it's all you – but once a person gets on a segway it is very difficult to convince them to get off of it, they get this "segway smile" and away they go" he said.

"We joined up with Segs in the City because we believe Segways are a great way to share the sites of Washington with visitors and locals alike" says Stephen Marks, owner of Bike the Sites.

Bike the Sites offers a range of bike tours featuring the monuments and museums and they even conduct night tours along with regular bike rentals. "Most of all Segs in the City are a fun group - as you can tell by the name and we are all about fun for our customers" he said.
